Introducing Mike – Our Red Wine Loving Technologist

Not a week passes without hearing someone in a start-up asking where they can find a good tekkie. It’s a hard position to fill and even harder to fill with someone that not only knows their stuff but is a great collaborator. So housebites is incredibly fortunate to have got both!

Introducing our new CTO Mike Brittain …..

When did you join housebites?

I was first introduced to Simon at the beginning of May 2011. When he told me about how he wanted to create a business delivering quality home cooked food, from a network of local chefs, I absolutely fell in love with the idea. I joined later that same first week.

What do you do at housebites?

I run the technical team and am responsible for producing our web, mobile and social products. Our team also supports the ongoing operations of the company, using technology to help improve the customer experience and service.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

I absolutely love the startup vibe and creating something new out of nothing. As a technologist this is especially true as there’s so much great technology out there, which can be used to produce a fantastic product. The real kick is when it all comes together and you can just stand back and see all that you’ve accomplished on your journey.

What were you doing before housebites?

I was working on a couple of other web based projects including an ad bidding platform and an online fashion portal.

Where are you from?

I was born in London but spent my early years in North Bucks, surrounded by farmland and attending to our own geese and hens. The best omelette I ever made was from 1 single goose egg – enough to go round the whole family at breakfast!

Favourite restaurant?

I don’t have a specific favourite restaurant, but I do love simple, rustic dining – particularly bistros, where the menu may be limited but the food and atmosphere are amazing. Favourite recipe? After spending a year living in the south of France, in Bordeaux, I think it would have to be anything cooked in red wine! Coq au vin is one of my all time favourites and beef bourguignon comes a pretty close second.

… We welcome Mike to the housebites team.
