For anyone wanting something fun and highly entertaining on Sunday evening, Three Hungry Boys is our recommendation. It is actually the 2nd series of this show, however the 1st series was positioned at 3pm on a Sunday and barely had any marketing. So, they’ve ripped it bare and started from scratch again.
It follows 3 uni mates, challenged by chef supremo Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall to travel from Devon to Lands End, with not a penny on them. All they have to survive is a pimped up milk float, a sack of spuds, a bag of rice, various fishing equipment, decent kitchen utensils, 3 bikes, and their clever bargining know-how.
Thom, Tim & Trevor need to work for all the food they need, trading their labour for ingredients or hunting/foraging as much as possible and generally trying any tactic in the book to not go hungry. It would be a daunting task for the socially inept, but that’s the key- these boys are charmers in the first degree.
Having all met at uni over their marine biology degree, they have a love for the land, which is definitely important. And Trevor is a dab hand in the kitchen, making a tasty dish out of the most basic of ingredients.
It’s an entertaining watch & had us viewing it with a touch of envy- you couldn’t help but think how thrilling it would be to live off the land, back to basics in the purest sense.
